YouTube Title & Description Length Checker

Count characters in your YouTube title and description and see where they are cut off in search, the home feed, the suggested sidebar and on mobile.

0 / 100

0 / 5000

Cutoffs are approximate. YouTube truncates by rendered width, not character count.

Type a title or description to see where it gets cut off.

How this works

Two limits are hard: YouTube allows titles up to 100 characters and descriptions up to 5,000. Characters are counted the way you read them, so an emoji counts as one.

YouTube does not accept the characters < and > in titles or descriptions. The tool flags them.

The cutoffs shown for each place (search, home feed, sidebar, mobile, collapsed description) are rule-of-thumb character counts, not official numbers. YouTube truncates by rendered width, so a title with wide letters is cut earlier and one with narrow letters later. Treat them as a guide to what to put first, not a guarantee.

Nothing you type is sent anywhere. The counting and previews run in your browser.
