Which YouTube niches are small channels growing in fastest? Our own data on 10,495 tracked channels across 15 niches, with the method, the limits and a CSV you can reuse.

Key findings
- In our tracked set, 92% of Pets channels under 100,000 subscribers gained more than 100,000 views a day between 22 and 26 September 2026, against 38% in Gaming.
- The niches with the most Shorts show the largest view gains: across the 15 niches the rank correlation between the Shorts share and the share of fast-gaining small channels is 0.92.
- Views are not revenue. The figures count Shorts views and views that earn nothing, and the tracked set leans toward channels with a breakout video.

Methodology
We track 17,887 channels, built from charts, lookups and channel discovery, and store daily view counts. On 26 September 2026 we asked the YouTube Data API for each channel’s topic categories (channels.list, topicDetails). Views gained per day is each channel’s total view count on 26 September minus its count on 22 September, divided by four, for the 10,495 channels present on both days.
A channel counts in every niche YouTube lists for it, so niches overlap. A niche appears only if it has at least 60 tracked channels under 100,000 subscribers. Top 10 share is the share of the niche’s views gained that came from its ten fastest-gaining channels.
The format table uses a seeded random draw of 45 channels under 100,000 subscribers per niche and their latest 20 uploads, read through the Data API on 26 September 2026. A channel has 20 uploads in 28 days when its 20th most recent upload falls within 28 days of 26 September 2026.
Limits: the tracked set leans toward channels with a breakout video, so the median small channel here gains far more views than a typical channel of that size, and only the differences between niches are informative. View counts include Shorts views and views that earn nothing. Topic categories come from YouTube and are coarse. The study covers four days.
