How this works
The banner is drawn on a canvas inside this page. Your images stay in your browser: nothing is uploaded to YTDetective or anywhere else, and the tool sends nothing while you work.
The canvas is 2560×1440 pixels, the size YouTube Help recommends, especially for TV. YouTube's minimum is 2048×1152 (16:9) and the file must be 6 MB or smaller. The download always uses the full canvas.
YouTube Help documents one safe area for text and logos: 1235×338 pixels at the minimum size. We scale it in proportion to 1544×423 and centre it. The scaling is our arithmetic and the centred position is our assumption, because Help does not say where the area sits. Help also says the same banner shows differently on computers, phones and TVs, so check the preview in YouTube Studio before you publish.
Fonts are the ones already on your device, so text can look slightly different from one computer to another. Text and logos are positioned by their centre point.

Where is the safe area on a YouTube banner?
YouTube Help gives its size only: 1235×338 pixels at the minimum size, for text and logos. We scale it to 1544×423 on the 2560×1440 canvas and centre it. Anything outside it may be cropped on some devices.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. Images are read and drawn in your browser, and the tool never sends them anywhere.
Which file types can I use?
JPG and PNG for the background and the logo. A PNG logo with a transparent background works best. YouTube Help does not list banner file types, so we export PNG or JPEG.
Why does the tool warn about my background image?
If the image is smaller than 2048×1152, YouTube's minimum, it will look soft when it is stretched to fill 2560×1440. The banner still exports.
What if the file is over 6 MB?
A detailed photo can make a PNG larger than the limit. Choose JPEG: the tool lowers the quality step by step until the file fits, and tells you if it cannot.
