YouTube Play Buttons: Silver, Gold, Diamond Requirements
Published 2026-10-15 · 7 min read · YTDetective
TL;DR
- YouTube's Creator Awards, the plaques people call Play Buttons, come at four milestones: Silver at 100,000 subscribers, Gold at 1 million, Diamond at 10 million and Red Diamond at 100 million.
- Reaching the number is not enough. YouTube's awards page also asks for uploads in the last 6 months, no Community Guidelines violation in the last 365 days, original main content and no artificially inflated subscribers. YouTube reviews every channel and gives awards at its sole discretion.
- Eligible channels get a redemption code in YouTube Studio within 10 days of the milestone, then order the award on the redemption site. YouTube's page puts delivery at about 2 to 4 weeks.
- Of the 32,904 channels we track, 19,691 have passed 100,000 subscribers, 850 have passed 10 million and 12 have passed 100 million.
The Play Button is the most visible milestone on YouTube, and a lot of what is written about it is guesswork. This guide sets out what YouTube's own Creator Awards page says, adds our count of how many tracked channels sit at each tier, and covers the questions the page leaves open.
What are the YouTube Play Button tiers?
| Award | Subscribers | Our tracked channels at or above |
|---|---|---|
| Silver | 100,000 | 19,691 |
| Gold | 1,000,000 | 6,990 |
| Diamond | 10,000,000 | 850 |
| Red Diamond | 100,000,000 | 12 |
Creator Award tiers (YouTube for Creators) and how many of our tracked channels have passed each, October 14, 2026 (our data)
Our 32,904 channels are built from charts, lookups and channel discovery, so the set leans toward large channels (the median has 171,000 subscribers). The counts show how thin the top tiers get, not what share of all YouTube channels have an award. Some channels also cross a milestone and never receive the award, for the reasons below.
Who is eligible for a Creator Award?
YouTube's awards page lists the conditions. A channel has to:
- reach one of the four subscriber milestones;
- have uploaded in the last 6 months;
- have no active Community Guidelines violation, and none in the last 365 days;
- follow YouTube's Terms of Service;
- not be rejected or suspended from the YouTube Partner Program, though being in the program is not required;
- not be terminated or linked to a terminated account;
- not carry deceptive, spammy or scam content;
- have original main content. The page says compilation, mix or curation channels may be ineligible.
The page also says every channel is reviewed before an award is issued, that channels must be free of copyright strikes and artificially inflated subscriber counts, and that awards are given at YouTube's sole discretion. Bought subscribers can therefore cost a channel the award it was chasing.
How do you claim a Play Button?
- 01
Wait for the notification in YouTube Studio
YouTube's page says eligible channels get a notification with a unique redemption code within 10 days of reaching a milestone. If you lose it, the page's eligibility check gives it to you again.
- 02
Enter the code on the redemption site
The awards page links to the Creator Awards redemption website.
- 03
Add shipping details and the name on the plaque
Use your full legal name for shipping and choose how the channel name appears on the award.
- 04
Order and watch for courier messages
The page says awards are handcrafted and shipped, and gives 2 to 4 weeks in one place and about 2 to 3 weeks in its FAQ. If a delivery company asks for documents and you do not answer, the award may be returned or lost.
The page does not state a price for the award. It does say creators in some countries, such as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, must pay customs duties or taxes that YouTube cannot legally cover, and that the program is unavailable in 13 countries and regions, including Belarus, Cuba, Iran, Russia, Syria and Venezuela. Damage has to be reported to the award maker, Society Awards, within seven days, with the packaging kept.
Why haven't I received my Play Button?
Our checklist, built from the page's rules:
- Has it been 10 days since the milestone? The code comes in Studio, not by email or post.
- Is the channel really past the milestone? Public counts are rounded down, so 100K means at least 100,000 and 99.9K means not yet. Our subscriber count guide explains the rounding.
- Have you uploaded in the last 6 months?
- Any Community Guidelines violation in the past year, or a copyright strike?
- Is the channel mostly compilations or reuploads?
If all five are clear, the page's interactive eligibility check is the next stop. Our Channel Audit shows a channel's public upload history and subscriber count, which covers the first three questions from the outside.
Is a Play Button the same as verification?
No. Both start at 100,000 subscribers, which is why they get mixed up. The verification badge is a check mark that marks an official channel, applied for in Studio and reviewed for authenticity, and YouTube Help says it is not an award or a milestone. Our verification guide covers it. A channel can have either without the other.
Can you buy or sell a Play Button?
YouTube's page says awards are for personal use only and may not be sold or distributed outside the channel's team. Breaking that can mean forfeiting the award, losing eligibility for future ones, or account termination. By those terms, a plaque offered for sale online is either a replica or sold in breach of them.
Confidence note
The tiers, eligibility rules, redemption steps, delivery times, country rules and resale terms come from YouTube's Creator Awards page, and the verification comparison from YouTube Help, both read on October 15, 2026. The page gives no price and no appeal route, so we state neither. The channel counts are our own snapshot of October 14, 2026, from a tracked set that leans toward large channels.
